From the living room, master bedroom and garden, there are superb views of Strumble Head and the Irish sea. At night time, the light of the Stumble Head lighthouse can be seen rotating in the distance.

Mathry is the oldest settlement in Pembrokeshire dating back to Norman times. It dominates the surrounding countryside from the top of a hill and has a nationally recognised wood-turner, a friendly pub, award winning tea rooms and a village shop. The regular coastal walkers bus service stops in Mathry which means that you can walk the coastal path without having to rely on a car or retrace your steps.

9 miles west of Mathry is St Davids with its magnificent medieval cathedral, art galleries, gift shops and restaurants. From here, you can book boat trips to the outlying islands to spot seals, sea birds and porpoises. It is also possible to rent surfboards, boogie boards, kayaks and surf skis. 7 miles east is the small market town of Fishguard with fortnightly farmer's market, luxury spa and a daily ferry to Ireland.

There are plenty of seaside villages to explore in between, including the old quarry port of Porthgain with the Sloop Inn ('the best pub in the county'), The Shed (AA Wales Seafood Restaurant of the Year 2006), and art galleries. Also less than 10 miles away is Solva, widely renowned as the most picturesque fishing village in Pembrokeshire. Crabbing from the slipway here is a popular kids' activity during the summer months.

There are numerous quiet, white sandy beaches along this stretch of coast. Whitesands Bay is one of the most popular - a long and wide sandy beach, excellent for bathing, rock pools and surfing. This beach has all the facilities, but even on a hot summer's day it is possible to find a quiet spot to yourself. If you prefer something more remote, there are plenty of secret coves and beaches to be explored. Within walking distance of Cilcain (2 miles), Abermawr is a long shingle beach at high tide but at lower tide has acres of magnificent sand, revealing occasionally the remains of a 6,000 year old forest.
